A Note for Everyone Running the Rescheduled Clontarf Half Marathon Tomorrow
After the unexpected delay and a bit of calendar juggling, runners will finally get their chance to take on the Clontarf Half Marathon tomorrow morning. It’s been a slightly unusual buildup this year, but there’s a real sense of relief and excitement now that race day is finally here.
The Clontarf Half has always had a loyal following, thanks to its flat course, coastal views, and friendly atmosphere. For many, it’s the last big outing of the year one more race to round off the season before the winter break. And now, with the rescheduled date, it feels like an even more welcome opportunity to get out, clear the head, and enjoy a proper run with a big crowd around you.
What You’ll Find on the Course
The route is the same classic Clontarf loop that regulars know well. It’s flat, forgiving, and perfect for settling into a steady rhythm. The only wildcard, as always, is the wind. If it’s blowing in off the sea, you’ll feel it but it’s nothing a bit of smart pacing can’t handle. If you hit a breezy patch early on, tuck in behind a small group and let them shield you until conditions ease.
Bull Island is one of the nicest sections of the day. The long straight there gives you a great view of the field and a reminder that once you turn around, the finish gets closer with every step. Use this stretch to check in with yourself: how’s the breathing, how are the legs, do you need a sip of water?
A Few Simple Race-Day Reminders
With the original date pushed back, some runners may feel like their training rhythm wasn’t perfect. Don’t worry about that. Focus on running smart, especially in the first 5km. If you start too quick, those long finishing miles can creep up on you.
Sort the basics tonight race kit laid out, gels or snacks ready, number pinned on, and your route to the start planned. A calm morning makes a huge difference. Eat something familiar, sip some water, and give yourself plenty of time to get settled.
The water stations will be spaced out nicely, so take advantage of them, particularly if it’s a mild or muggy morning. Small sips are better than big gulps, and they keep you moving comfortably.
Soak It All In
One of the best things about Clontarf is the mix of people it attracts first-timers, club runners, charity runners, PB chasers, and everyone in between. Tomorrow, you’re one of them. Whatever your goal is a fast time, a steady training run, or simply finishing strong give yourself permission to enjoy it.
Look around. Listen to the footsteps, the encouragement, the chatter. Notice the sea, the skyline, the crowds near the finish. These are the moments you’ll remember long after you’ve crossed the line.
Finish Proud
When you hit those final kilometres, remind yourself why you signed up. You’ve done the work. Now it’s just about putting one foot in front of the other and getting to that finish arch with a smile.
Best of luck to everyone running tomorrow. Run well, run steady, and enjoy the day you’ve earned it.
